ISTE Pre-Conference

Session 1: Oh the Place We Will Go: Google Earth, SketchUp, SpaceNavigator

This is the 1st session of workshop I attended. It was rather technical. The focus was on how to use the tools rather than classroom application and pedagogical approaches. One useful site is http://googlelittrips.org/ It was created by a retired teacher who created Google Tours based on novels.

Google Earth Gallery displays the latest imagery to appear in Google Earth.

Create a Google Tour

e.g. Google Earth Tour based on the book Into the Wild written by Jon Krakauer
Use the "Fly to" to search for locations
.kmz files will be created in "My Places"
Layer allows the turning on and off the Panoramio Photos, Places of Interest, etc.
Instructions (The maps created will stay only on the computer where it is created) :
Add--> Folder

To embed media within your placemarker however you will need to put the following html code into the properties or get info of your placemarker.
To create a website link enter:
To embed a photo in Placemarker:
"http://www.image_url">Your text here.
In each case replace the blue link with your copied link and the red "your text here" with your own description.
To place a video within the placemarker simply put this into your location:

Google SketchUp Warehouse has a great variety of pre-created components. Sketches can be loaded into Google Earth.
